Many people call Brett Favre, former NFL quarterback, an ‘ironman’ because of his streak of starting 297 consecutive games. But guitar-god Carlos Santana just had to cancel his first show in 40 years!

Yes, Santana was playing concerts when Brett Favre was still in diapers. He plays shows year-round, around the world, and in four decades has never had to a cancel a show. But that amazing streak came to an end on Wednesday as members of the band posted on their website that Carlos and other bandmates had the flu and would have to cancel their Las Vegas show.

Ok, so maybe to toil of playing music on the road doesn’t quite compare to the physical abuse pro athletes go through every season, but that is still a pretty dramatic feat in my book.

Think of all the dingy dirty clubs you’ve been to. Think of the concert venues swarming with thousands of germ-ridden music fans, their cigarettes, and their booze. Think of the hundreds of hands rock and rollers shake, slap, and high five on a given night. And try and imagine never getting sick enough to miss a show for 40 years.

Carlos Santana, I salute you and your ironman concert streak.
