Today is one of my favorite 'holidays' of the summer. July 11th, otherwise known as 7-11 Day...the day where everyone can enjoy a free 7.11 ounce Slurpee at any participating 7-Eleven location.

Derek & I have made a ritual of challenging each other to Slurpee-chugging contests (and that may continue), but this year we're doing a Slurpee dance-off!

Why would we do a Slurpee dance-off, considering that neither of us are 'dancers'? Well, 7-11 wants to see everyone's Slurpee Dances and seeing as neither of us are above embarrassing ourselves we thought we'd take part. Which one of us wins is up to you!

I decided to go with a little 80's inspiration for a Flashdance Slurpee Dance. Remember the dream scene with the water?) I'm pretty sure I still have Slurpee in my sinuses. Oops.

And Here is Derek's "Sweet" moves. A co-worker told him to do the dance "Magic Mike" style so here is his attempt... Huge thanks to Ricky B's here in Windsor for letting him use the dance floor and embarrass himself.

Now...time to litter the social media world with @Slurpee mentions and #SlurpeeDance hashtags.

As far as the Slurpee chug-off goes, Derek is up 2-0 in the series. Let's see if this is my year...

Fun Slurpee facts (Find more at Slurpee.com):

  • Early prototypes for the Slurpee machine made use of an automobile air conditioning unit.
  • Slurpee drinks are carbonated.
  • Sugar is the anti-freezing agent in most Slurpee drinks.
  • Only one private individual owns a bona fide Slurpee machine. The rest are in 7-Eleven stores.
  • Slurpee was “invented” when some sodas were put in a freezer to cool them down — and they became all slushy.
  • At Slurpee, we call it a BrainFreeze. The scientific name for it is Sphenopalatine Ganglioneuralgia.
