Bag Thief Strikes DIA During On-Camera Interview About Bag Thefts

Last week a guy made my dumb criminals list for stealing Peter Frampton’s baggage from Denver International Airport, and another baggage thief makes the list today. Denver’s CBS 4 was doing an interview at DIA about how few baggage thefts they've had and during that interview, someone stole a bag!

According to CBS Denver, a Boulder man had returned back to DIA and could not find his bag. He later found it at the baggage claim office, but nearly $3,000 of belongings inside were gone.

Turns out, a woman (caught on surveillance video) had taken his bag off a carousel, took it to another part of the airport, rooted through it, stole the stuff inside, and dumped it. This all happened at the exact same time the news crew had been doing on-camera interviews about how few thefts the airport has.

Airport administrators say such thefts are rare, and last week’s theft…would be only the 16th reported bag theft from the airport’s baggage carousel areas in 2013.

The thief was wearing glasses, a red purse and  an unusual animal hat. How inconspicuous!

Again, with all the security and surveillance video, how to crooks ever think they're going to get away with this kind of thing?!
