Another Colorado Restaurant Receives Aid From Barstool Fund
Another Colorado restaurant has received aid from the Barstool Sports Fund.
Namiko's Sushi Bar was struggling to pay their rent amid the coronavirus pandemic, like many businesses in the nation. When they thought they weren't going to make it, the family-owned restaurant applied for aid from the Barstool Sports Fund, and they got it.
A mom, Uri, opened Namiko's Sushi Bar in Arvada in 1988, according to The Denver Channel. The Colorado restaurant is named after her daughter, Namiko, who grew up helping out in the restaurant doing dishes and waiting tables. Namiko says the restaurant is her mom's legacy.
The restaurant was the first Japanese restaurant to open in the area and Namiko really wanted to preserve her mom's legacy. Namiko knew that her mom would have done whatever it took to keep the Arvada restaurant open, so she had to do the same.
She didn't think they were going to make it and knew they needed some assistance. Namiko's son was the one who kept telling her to should apply for the Barstool Sports fund, which helps small businesses stay afloat.
According to The Denver Channel, Namiko applied for aid from the Barstool Fund in February and received a call from the owner of Barstool Sports, Dave Portnoy, less than three weeks later. Once Namiko found out that they received aid she couldn't help but cry. Now she doesn't have to worry about not being able to pay her rent. Namiko reminds everyone to not give up.
The Barstool Fund has helped 295 businesses, as of Friday, February 26, 2021, and has raised over $36,000,000.
