Today's events that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut are of such a magnitude it's nearly impossible to put into words the heartbreak and sorrow I have for the victims and families of this horrific event.

When these events occur many of us lose a sense of comfort and this is the most important time to reach out to your loved ones and truly embrace what you have in life.

Just a few days ago our own Colorado governor John Hickenlooper spoke on his thoughts of gun violence and his command to increase gun control laws. Hickenlooper believes "it's time" for Colorado gun control law makers to make change to what type of weapons people can acquire.

Whether or not this would make a change for incidences like the shooting in Connecticut today, I don't know. But why are so many of these events happening? That, I don't think anyone can answer.

The weapon used in today's world shattering event was a .223 caliber rifle; a weapon that  is capable of shooting "6 bullets a second" with devastating results.

In the Aurora shooting that took the lives of 12 and wounded 70 others an AR 15 rifle was used. A weapon used by the United States armed forces. In the Oregon mall shooting which took place more recently an AR 15 rifle was also used. In my mind I have to ask why any civilian would ever need such a weapon that can cause so much damage and is intended for military combat type situations.

I personally feel the need of law makers to start making change. How much change could be made really? It's hard to say because there are so many of these weapons already circulating throughout the United States. We'll also often hear after these terrifying events government officials promising to take another look at what the current gun laws are doing. How much change ever happens?

President Obama's gave a very emotional speech today on the shooting in Connecticut and stated, "We’re going to have to come together and take meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this, regardless of the politics.”

No change could happen over night. Start now or it never will.

With feelings of heartbreak I can't express how important it is for all of us to come together for support. Share your thoughts and prayers to the friends and families of those effected today.
