The suspect arrested for alleged responsibility in the Mason Street homicide on July 5 has officially been charged as an adult in Larimer County.

The juvenile suspect is 16 years old at the time of the charge. Because he has now been formally charged as an adult, Fort Collins Police are able to publicly release his identity.

16-year-old Benjamin Zwahlen was arrested on August 17, 2021 for First Degree Murder. Zwahlen is suspected to be responsible for the murder of 58-year-old Todd Stout.

Detectives still do not believe there was any prior involvement or connection between the suspect and the victim.

Zwahlen is currently being held in juvenile detention while awaiting his criminal prosecution.

Fort Collins Police say investigators are still looking into the incident and the circumstances surrounding Zwahlen on the day of the homicide.

Fort Collins Police remind the public that suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty. The charges against Zwahlen are currently just accusations by officers.
