Ok, this is gross. A student at the University of Alberta wore the same pair of jeans for 15 months without washing them. I’m all about wearing a pair of jeans a few times between washes, but 15 months?!

The 20-year-old student’s name is Josh Land he did it all for science. He bought the jeans and had them tested for bacteria before he ever washed or wore them. Then he spent 15 months wearing the same pants, every day. He still showered and kept all of his regular personal hygiene habits, but just never changed or washed the pants. The only thing he did do was put them in the freezer every two weeks to help eliminate the pungent odor the pants were nurturing.

After the 15 months he and a human ecology ran more bacteria tests on the pants and found that there were no dangerous bacteria living on the soiled jeans.  There certainly was more bacteria, but just more of the harmless bacteria that lives on your skin.

I’m not sure if that’s a comforting fact or not. If you pants smell so bad you have to put them in the freezer to keep them from smelling, you either need to wash your pants, or see a doctor. The professor the boy was working with did point out that wearing underwear was probably a big factor in keeping harmful bacteria out of the pants.

I feel like I want to wash all of my pants now. Gross.
