April 3 is the anniversary of the first Sundae being created! When going to the Google website, I read that there are actually two places in the United States that claim they are the birth place of the delicious treat Ithaca, N.Y. and Two Rivers, Wisconsin. Google seams to be siding with Ithaca. According to the Ithaca story the Sundae append on April 3, 1892, when Reverend John M. Scott paid his usual visit to the Platt & Colt Pharmacy in downtown Ithaca and asked for for two bowls of ice cream. Instead of serving plain vanilla, the bowls were topped with cherry syrup and a candied cherry. the Reverend liked it so much so that the he felt obliged to name the new creation. Scott suggested that it be named for the day it was created and the first "Cherry Sunday" was born.
So go out and celebrate today and have a Sundae to complete your Sunday!
