When I proposed to my fiance, I wanted it to be at least somewhat private and meaningful.  I chose one of our favorite restaurants in one of our favorite cities as the setting to pop the question.  I waited for all the tables around us to clear.  And, most importantly, I turned off my smartphone. The last thing I wanted was this once-in-a-lifetime moment to be interrupted by texts and email notifications.  The guy in this story, though, proposed to his lady in a way that was decidedly opposite from mine; he was updating his Twitter the whole time.

Mike Duerksen had an elaborate plan leading up to his proposal:

"The plan is simple: [O]ver the next 12 hours I'll be taking her on 8 different dates to 8 different places," he began. "Each location has a story and special meaning behind it — some of them sentimental; others are inside jokes." On each date, he would give his girlfriend a card containing "a picture, a memory and a wish for the future."

As Duerksen took his girlfriend down this road to a marriage proposal, he was tweeting every step of the way.  He was even on the ball with his tweets as they were forced to change some of their plans due to weather.

At one point, Duerksen's girlfriend asked him to get off of his phone so they could enjoy their time together (geez, I'm glad she at least noticed); but she must not have been that irritated, because when the big moment finally came, Duerksen wasn't disappointed.

I'm not saying it wasn't a creative way to propose; but I'm not sure I would have wanted the feeling of hundreds of Internet gawkers following me around during one of the most important nights of my life.  But, maybe that's just me.

Do you think it was sweet of Duerksen to keep the Internet updated with a play-by-play proposal?  Or do you think he should have left the tweeting for later?  Leave a comment below, and I'll read it on the air!
