That's right! The third Sunday in July is National Ice Cream Day, a day dedicated to one of the best deserts ever!
President Ronald Reagan declared the third Sunday in July the Ice Cream holiday in 1984. According to National Archives at the Presidential Library,Ice Cream was one of Former President Regan's favorite desserts.
National Geographic states that the United States produces 1.6 billion gallons of frozen desserts annually. We export about 40 million of those gallons to other countries, especially Japan. Americans also spend almost $20 billion on ice cream and other frozen desserts each year.
Ice Cream, like most other foods brought to the U.S, was brought over seas by English colonialist. Some of the early fans of this frozen treat where George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson. He was said to have fallen in love with Vanilla Ice Cream while he was a diplomat in France.
Its' easy to see that Americans really like their Ice Cream!
