Not everyone was happy about the plastic bag fee that was passed by the Fort Collins city council in August in a 5-2 vote. A group of citizens collected enough signatures to have the council repeal the controversial ordinance or pass it to the voters. The ordinance if passed would put a 5-cent charge on every plastic bag sold in all stores. According to the Coloradan, on Monday night, the Fort Collins City Clerk Wanda Nelson confirmed that 2,604 of the over 4,000 signatures collected by representatives of Citizens for Recycling Choices were valid and enough to move the issue to the city council. On October 21, the council will decide if they will repeal the ordinance, place it on an upcoming ballot or they could even call for a special election.
