Dumb Criminal of the Day: Son Steals Dad’s Rare Coin Collection, Trades it in a Coinstar Machine [VIDEO]

We know most criminals usually aren’t the brightest bulbs, but this guy from Oregon certainly takes ‘stupid’ to a new level.

Police in Oregon are looking for a suspect who allegedly stole a rare coin collection from his own father, (On Christmas day!) and traded it in for a fraction of its worth at a Coinstar machine.

The stolen collection was worth thousands of dollars and this apple-of-his-father’s-eye stole it and traded it in for about  $450.

On Christmas day, the son and two accomplices broke into his father’s shed and stole some tools and two safes which housed about 50 pounds of silver and jewelry. They took the rare coins and dumped them in the change-cashing machine in exchange for  $450 and took all the coins that wouldn't fit to a local bank.

Thankfully, with the help of police and the bank, the father has recovered most of his coin collection.  The two accomplices have been apprenhended but they are still searching for the bad son.
