Looking for something unique and fun that gets you out of town, but not too far out of town? And looking for something you could bring to kids too as well? Cave of The Winds might be the answer. It is one of the premier 'show caves' in the country and is only a 2-2 1/2 hour drive from Fort Collins. You could easily make it a day trip, or put yourself up for the night and enjoy other things in the Colorado Spring area.
Cave of The Winds offers two different Cave tours, the Discovery Tour or the Lantern Tour:
The Discovery Tour is an educational, 45-minute walking tour ideal for beginning cavers and families. Some of what you'll see; Majestic Hall, the Bridal Chamber, the Temple of Silence, Fat Man’s Misery, the Giant’s Bleeding Heart, and you'll experience total cave darkness. (Which is both eerie and amazing, I can't even describe it.)
The Lantern Tour is a 1.5-hour trek through rugged caverns and is ideal for more adventurous visitors. (This one is not just a walk in the park) Athletic shoes are recommended and kids under 5 are not allowed. On this one you travel deep into the Manitou Grand Caverns, exploring with nothing but the light created by hand-held lanterns.
