The Fray at Red Rocks

[/caption]Over the weekend, local favorites, The Fray, played two nights at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. I was lucky enough to take in the Friday night show and, despite nature's best efforts to ruin the evening, it was a great show!

Check out some pics from Friday night below.

Now, getting to Red Rocks on time after my air-shift on Friday was nothing short of serendipitous. I made it from Windsor to the venue in about an hour and fifteen minutes on a rainy Friday night. (Miraculous, no?) But it was cold! Bitter cold, with chilly rain soaking everyone there.

Chruchill and Dia Frampton opened the night, and The Fray took the stage after the apropos "Homeward Bound" played over the loudspeakers. Then, almost like it was planned, the rain let up and fans were treated to an amazing homecoming  performance.

They played their hits, they played some new songs, they played some old ones, they even played some cover songs (see the setlist below). One of the most magical parts of the night was when Isaac came out in to the crowd and was then joined by the rest of the band to play a few songs in the middle of the seats above the sound guy. I think there were a few groups of girls  near us that looked like they had discovered religion as Issac came by them.  It was a cool part of the show, and a great way to break up the set.

One of my concert pet peeves is when bands take their mandatory water break and complain about the altitude here, but not The Fray. In fact, during one of their song Isaac actually ran halfway up the amphitheater steps, ran across the entire crowd and all the way down the other side. He then hopped up on stage and kept singing without missing a beat. If you've ever run the red rocks steps, you know that's not an easy feat in itself, let alone in the middle of a performance.

The Fray put on one of their best shows I have ever seen and had the crowd in a frenzy the entire night. Something abut playing their hometown crowd brings out the best in these guys.

I was also lucky enough to meet the guys backstage before the show (I forget how tall they all are!) and it's simply amazing how far they have come. Check out this picture from a Hurricane Katrina benefit concert we did with the fray back in 2004.

Friday night's show was worth every drop of red mud that is now embedded in the carpet of my car. It also reminded me that even in less-than-perfect weather, Red Rocks is one of the coolest venues you'll ever see a concert at.
