In the radio world we get to meet more than our fair share of musicians and up-and-coming celebrities. Some are good, some are great, others are just okay...and some simply blow you out of the water. That's kind of what happened on Friday when Rachel Platten made a stop by the 99.9 The Point studios.

Rachel is an adorable, piano playing, joke-cracking, beat-boxing, singer/songwriter from the east coast. She had a chat with Derek & I in the studio and played for us a couple of songs including her soon-to-be-hit "1,000 Ships."

After taping for an NBC television show in Denver and eating lunch at the Spicy Pickle, Rachel stopped by the Point studios and showed off some of her skills. She opened up with a complex piano piece (which was impressive in it's own right) leading into the song "You Don't Have To Go." In that, she also showcased her beat boxing skills.

Rachel then threw down "1,000 Ships." Her voice was, for lack of a better adjective, amazing (one of those voices that can comfortably fill a room without any amplifiers).  She truly is a great performer and I'll bet you'll be hearing her name a lot.

Check out the videos and the pictures below. You can really feel the heart and soul that goes into her songs and she's found a way to blend her talents to create some very fun, very uplifting tunes.

I want people to feel good when they listen to my songs, but never on a superficial level,” says Platten. “You have to recognize that life is hard and there will be pain, but there is always joy in it and you can overcome it. You can always find beauty around you. [RachelPlatten.com]

I mentioned to her how she has a talent for taking a song that is so sad when you read into the lyrics, and manages to makes it sound so happy. And not just happy, head-bobbing happy. Here's what she said:

We also decided that Rachel needs to get together with Andy Grammer and Andrew McMahon and great a beat boxin', piano playin', guitar strummin'  super group. Dear music industry, make it happen.
