  • Hi, is this Lindsey?
  • Hey Brian! Long time no talk.
  • Hey, I'm trying to reach Tyler. Is this him?

The Scam in Colorado Explained

The phenomenon is referred to as the wrong number scam. According to RoboKiller, the steps are getting your number, having a conversation, developing a relationship, and then finding a way to steal from you.

RoboKiller says that a common method is moving the conversation to a different app. Then a scammer will send malware to an attachment that wouldn't be possible on iMessage.
