The moral of this story is to always double check your belongings before getting rid of them.

Dori Rhoades decided to do what most of us do and that is sell our old stuff and make some money by having a garage sale. The only problem is, she forgot to check her pockets.

She claims that she put a pair of diamond earrings, worth about $18,000, into a jacket pocket along with 1,500 for safe keeping, and then sold that said jacket for $20 bucks at her garage sale. One would think that if you put something that valuable into a pocket to keep it safe from robbers, you would remember? Wouldn't you?

I volunteer in my kids' classrooms multiple times a week, I work full time, I think anyone who is a mother knows. You give so much of yourself that sometimes your brain stops working. That morning, I sold the jean jacket without even a thought. For $20."

Oh, so it's the kids fault.

Have you ever "given" away something valuable?
