It's just a number, but it's a number that impacts your financial life. The credit score can be a daunting thing. It is important in the world for your financial purchasing power. It's a representation of your financial habits.

The credit score of consumers is a rating that was put into place in 1989 by Fair, Isaac, and Company, better known as FICO. It's a model that is used by the majority of the financial world. Credit scores were designed to gauge risk.

Borrowing money, getting good rates on a mortgage, and being able to choose the credit card that best suits you are all easier and more friendly to the consumer (you) when a good credit score is a part of your application.

Turns out there are cities in the United States that have much higher median credit scores than others. According to Wallet Hub in New Brunswich, New Jersey the median credit score is 816. Whoa!!! In the Villages, Florida the median is 806. Right here in Colorado, the city of Monument has a median credit score of 784. In contrast, the lowest median credit score can be found in South Bend, Indiana is 448.

So what can you do to increase your credit score quickly? Howard University, Associate Professor Vaneesha Dutra says "the fastest way to increase your credit score is to consistently make on-time payments and adjust your debt balances to ideal credit utilization ratios."
