Who is Gotye? How Do You Pronounce His Name? Who is the girl singing with him in 'Somebody that I Used To Know'? These are all questions I hear daily.

Gotye, pronounced 'GOH-TEE-YAY' is the man behind the song 'Somebody that I Used to Know'. A song climbing music charts everywhere, and with well over 100 millions views on YouTube right now. 100 MILLION...I think we can all agree he's a pretty big deal.

Who is he, where did he come from and who is he singing with?According to his very in-depth and mostly-clever bio, his real name is Wouter "Wally" De Backer and he is a self-proclaimed music making mutant that goes by the stage name of Gotye. He was born in Bruges, Belgium in 1980. He moved to Melbourne, Australia at the tender age of two.

The name "Gotye" is derived from "Gaultier" (or "Gautier" or "Gauthier",) the French equivalent of "Wouter" ("Walter" in English.) -Wikipedia

He is a multi-talented guy who writes, sings, drums, plays keyboard, produces, and just about anything else you can imagine. He has independently released three studio albums and a remix album. He is also a member of a band called "The Basics" (An indie-pop trio from Melbourne).

The first time I heard Gotye was when Kama turned me on to a 'Walk Off the Earth' cover of 'Somebody That I Used To Know' (amazing stuff, by the way). I fell in love with the song, both versions of it, instantly. And the video is pretty spectacular and unique, check it out below.

Right now Gotye is on tour playing sold-out shows just about everywhere and he will be making a stop in Denver at the Ogden on April 6th, but it is sold out...Let's hope he can add another date.

In the meantime, check out the video for 'Someone That I Used to Know.' It really makes me want to start painting.

The girl singing with him in the song goes by the name of Kimbra. She is a singer/songwriter born in New Zealand and working in Australia. She has a gorgeous voice, and I'm guessing at least a few hundred thousand views of that video come from people hoping against hope that that camera eventually pans down a bit further.

You can buy Goyte's new album, 'Making Mirrors' on iTunes and Amazon.

Hopefully this answers a few of your Gotye questions.
