Now that social media has become an essential part of the national conversation, the peaceful transfer of power doesn't end at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue: it also happens online.

Following the formal swearing-in during President Donald Trump's inauguration ceremony today (Jan. 20), the @POTUS and @FLOTUS Twitter accounts are now maintained by President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.

"45th President of the United States. Working on behalf of the American people to make our country great again. Tweets may be archived http://wh.gov/privacy," the President's account reads — without any tweets (yet).

"This account is run by the Office of First Lady Melania Trump. Tweets may be archived. More at http://wh.gov/privacy," reads the @FLOTUS account.

President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama's tweets are now archived at @POTUS44 and @FLOTUS44, respectively. They will continue to tweet on their personal accounts, @BarackObama and @MichelleObama.

President Donald Trump's personal account, @RealDonaldTrump, will remain active.
