More than 38 people will lose their jobs on May 18th when Main Street Market in Wellington closes its doors for good.

Main Street Market is the only grocery store in Wellington, which will now be one of the largest towns in Colorado without one.

According to the Coloradoan, analysts think that many people who live in the town worked and shopped in Fort Collins which made it too hard to sustain a grocery store in Wellington.

"I think a lot of residents in Wellington work in Fort Collins, and they'll shop at the bigger stores, like the King Soopers, the Walmart," said Susan Wiedeman, marketing director for Scottsbluff, Neb.-based Panhandle Coop, which owns three other Main Street Markets in Nebraska and Wyoming.

Also affected by the closing: Warren Federal Credit Union will have to close its only Colorado branch and the Good Day Pharmacy adjacent to Main Street Market also will also be shutting down.

Sad news that could be devastating to Wellington and a lot of people that live in it. And residents will now have to drive 10-plus miles to get most fresh fruits and vegetables on their tables.

Such a sad story. I've never even been in Main Street Market, but after reading about this, I miss it already.
