Weld Food Bank Wins Big Thanks to Community Support
Thanks to the diligent voting of the Northern Colorado community, Weld Food Bank won $25,000 from State Farm Neighborhood Assist, according to a press release from the food bank.
State Farm Neighborhood Assist is a crowd-sourced program with a goal to help communities recognize the issues affecting their neighborhoods. Once these causes are identified, the non-profits affiliated with them receive grants to address them.
After 10 days of voting, it was clear that locals realized how much of an issue hunger is in Northern Colorado.
And with the money they won, Weld Food Bank will be able to fund six months worth of Saturday food distributions, which last for 4 hours on the weekend and feed around 500 people.
"We are deeply appreciative to our supporters who voted for us during this campaign, and to State Farm for making it all possible," said Bob O'Connor, Chief Executive Officer of Weld Food Bank. "It truly shows that Weld County takes care of their own."
Weld Food Bank was founded in 1982 as a member of Feeding America, with a mission to lead the community in the fight against hunger. Since then, the organization has been able to feed almost 60,000 people each year.
Despite this impressive number, the food bank is always looking for ways to help feed even more individuals. Thanks to the community and organizations like State Farm Neighborhood Assist, this is possible.
"We look forward to seeing the impact this grant will have on the Weld County community," said Tamara Pachl, a spokesperson for State Farm.
