Weld County Sheriff’s Office Warns of Two Scams Going Around

The second scam is described as community members receiving a call from a Deputy Antonio Perez claiming to work for Weld County Sheriff’s Office. The number he is calling from is 970-414-7178 and he states you missed jury duty and have a warrant out for your arrest. The caller tries to get you to buy a pre-paid credit card and give the card number over the phone. The Weld County Sheriff’s Office does not have anyone employed by the name of Antonio Perez.

It's important to know that the Weld County Sheriff’s Office will never try to resolve an arrest warrant over the phone and will also never accept payment in the form gift cards, pre-paid credit cards or any other type of credit through any store. Scammers may ask you to retrieve one of these items and give them the card number over the phone. If this does happen to you, be sure to ask for the individual’s name, phone number and badge number; hang up and immediately call (970) 356-4015, option 1. Do not give any money to these individuals.
