Governor Polis announced that March 20, 2021 would be 'MeatOut' day, encouraging Coloradans to take meat off the menu for a day. Weld responded.

According to the New York Times, 'MeatOut Day' has been around for over 35 years, having been established in 1985 by animal welfare organization. The idea is to encourage folks to explore plant-based food options for one day.

Once Polis' proclamation was made, Weld County announced that they would rebuke such an idea and declared March 20 would be "Weld County Ranching, Livestock, and Meat-In Day," as those industries bring in over $2 billion annually to Weld.

With Weld County's announcement, a rally was organized: The Meat-IN Music Rally.

The sold out (free) event took place at the Double Check Arena in Eaton starting at 5 p.m., with a stage providing live music and big barbecue providing beef, pork, lamb, and other non-plant-based food items.

Looking at photos, there may have been a few bibs for barbecue sauce, but not many masks in use.

Weld County Sheriff Steve Reams attended the event:

A few comments from the Sheriff's post:

One of the last true Colorado counties! Looks like a great time, good job Weld County!

This was the right way to do a "peaceful protest"

I have one word.
