A Greeley police officer has been cleared in regards to the June shooting of local man Stephen Garcia, according to a press release from the Office of the District Attorney.

Weld District Attorney Michael Rourke cleared the officer on Friday (August 9) in a report to Greeley Police Chief Mark Jones.

He concluded the shooting of Garcia was justified after reviewing a completed investigation of the incident from the Critical Incident Response team.

The shooting occurred on June 8th, 2019, when the officer fired at Garcia after he tried to light a methanol tank on fire.

The DA's office will release no further information until Garcia's case is complete.
