No way, absolutely not.

The great thermostat debate. Whether it's at home, at work, or at someone else's home, the temperature in a room really is a big deal for a lot of people. While I like to think of myself as not really a petty person, if I'm too hot in a room, some pettiness has been known to come out of me on occasion.

When indoors, I'd rather be a little colder rather than a little too hot. That's just me, so when I saw what the report from Energy Star said in terms of what the "proper" temperature in your home should be, I literally laughed out loud.

When you're at work or away during warmer months, the report recommends 85 degrees. When you're sleeping, set the thermostat to 82 degrees if possible.

For me personally, that's about 15-20 degrees higher than what I prefer. Sure, my energy bill may be a little higher, but it's so worth it.

Energy Star officials went on to say this about what you should have your house thermostat set to if you're looking to save a few bucks and energy:

Set your thermostat as high as comfortably possible in the summer. The smaller the difference between the indoor and outdoor temperatures, the lower your overall cooling bill will be.
