United Airlines has sent a warning to Denver International Airport and the Colorado Department of Labor after making the tough decision to massively reduce staff because of losses incurred during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a letter to the Colorado Department of Labor, United Airlines makes clear it plans to furlough up to 2,820 employees at Denver International Airport starting October 1, 2020. The airline company is blaming the reduction of staff on COVID-19 saying they "lost billions of dollars over this three-month period and are still spending far more than we are taking in."

The letter also states that the airline expects travel not to return to pre-COVID-19 levels until there is a vaccine.

According to Denver 7, United Airlines employs 7,000 people in Colorado and operates 460 flights each day out of Denver during non-pandemic times.
