Trail Ridge Road Open For Season

Rocky Mountain National Park has announced that the scenic Trail Ridge Road will reopen for the summer on Thursday, June 4. 

Trail Ridge Road is a popular destination for visitors to go cool off on hot summer days, and get really, really high — no, not like that. Trail Ridge Road is the 'highest continuous paved road in the United States,' Rocky Mountain National Park shared. Connecting Estes Park and Grand Lake, the road climbs over 12,000 feet above sea level.

In fact, it may not feel like summer at all up there. While we reach temps in the 90s in the Fort Collins area this week, in a press release, the park said to be prepared for icy, winter road conditions (Remember this?). You can always check the status of the road by calling (970) 586-1222.

The road closed on Halloween last fall, and it typically reopens for the season over Memorial Day weekend. While a little delayed, we're still getting access one day earlier than we did in 2019, when Trail Ridge Road opened on June 5.

Because of COVID-19, Rocky Mountain National Park began its phased reopening on May 27, and right now, the park will be using a timed entry system as it enters Phase Two. You are required to make reservations in order to enter the park as of June 4. Colorado is currently in a Safer at Home phase that encourages outdoor recreation.

The Alpine Visitor Center and Trail Ridge Store will reopen later in June, but there is toilet access. For more information, go here.
