So its been pretty dang hot lately and fire just makes our climate even hotter right?

To prevent the inevitable, Larimer County officials are considering new fire restrictions, according to the Coloradoan.

Yes we have had a little bit of rain but data gathered from across the county shows imminent fire dangers with high temperatures and wind in the forecast.

Justin Whitesell, Emergency Operations Director with the County Sheriff’s Office, told county commissioners Tuesday that most of Colorado is considered to be in some state of drought.

“We’re fortunate, we’re not seeing a huge drought like we are in the south/southeast, but that doesn’t mean we’re not prone to fires,” he said.

Commissioners will consider a resolution next week with State 1 fire restrictions ready to go.

Fire restriction stages:

  • Stage 1 - Campfires only allowed in permanent fire pits and no smoking in vegetation areas.
  • Stage 2 - A complete fire ban

Whitesell said that Larimer County has recently had several fires, with one caused by lightening and the others by humans.

The U.S. Forest Service has already implemented stage 1 fire restrictions within the Canyon Lakes Ranger District of the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National Grassland, as reported by the Coloradoan.
