Is your New Year's resolution to add more joy to your life? I've got the perfect way to check this one off your list: adopt a furry friend.

Here are three local pups that need a home in 2020.

1. Nelson

Nelson is used to rejection (relateable, dude) so why not give his story a happy ending this year? All Aboard Animal Shelter said in their post about Nelson:

Nelson is a sweet 10month old hound mix. He was found as a stray in Carlsbad, NM. He was found and brought to a local shelter to wait for his family, his family never came. He went up for adoption at the local shelter after his stray wait was up. He watched many dogs get adopted, but never sweet Nelson.

Make Nelson's dreams come true! How could you say no to this adorable face?

Contact All Aboard Animal Rescue for more information about Nelson.

2. Millie

Millie is a single, working mother, and needs some time to relax!

PetFinder.com described Millie as follows:

Hi, I'm Millie. I am a ten-year-old lab mix who was dumped at the shelter a few days before giving birth to eleven puppies. Having eleven toddlers and being 90 (in dog years) is no easy task. Now I am done being a mom, and ready to live out my golden years being someone's beloved best friend.

Millie just wants to retire in peace. Can you give her the relaxation she needs in 2020? If so, see her full profile on Petfinder.com!

3. Star

Star, like Millie, is an older girl who just wants a safe haven to live out the rest of her days instead of being shuttled from home to home. The adorable girl is great with other dogs and just wants to retire in peace.

Scroungy Dogs and Pretty Pups Rescue Inc. describes her as a dog who:

"...would just like a safe, warm place to spend her senior years, where she is adored and pampered by her people, which is what she deserves! She is a sweet, calm, loving girl whom we are told is good with other dogs and cats. She is about 10 years old and is on medication for arthritis and incontinence, but is otherwise healthy!"

Can you open your home to one of these lovable animals in the new year?
