I was hearing a lot of mixed reviews about this movie and to be honest the trailer didn't really blow me away either. I decided to take my parents and just see how bad it was.

Overall, it wasn't that bad. Sure, it had some campy moments, and some moments that made me wonder why it was part of the film. It had a lot of throwbacks to the show that I think some people missed and some good humor too. The story was not bad for an "origin" story and it was told in kind of a cool way that I was not expecting.

Here are my problems with the film. One, it felt like it was a tad too long. With a running time of 149 min, I felt it could have probably been cut down by 20 min or so. Secondly and the one that kind of bothered me the most was Tonto. It's like the director told Johnny Depp to act just like he did in the pirate movies because both characters felt very similar. Heck, they even kind of looked the same. Long dirty hair, jewelry and a hat that was a focal point at parts of the movie. I wish they would have done something a little bit different with Johnny Depp's Tonto to separate him from Sparrow. I also felt like they should have cut out some of the CGI animals, but I think that is just my personal preference. Last little thing is I feel like the trailer makes the movie look like its going to be a campy, goofy, family flick, when its not. I think that the trailer and marketing of this movie is probably the main reason that it is struggling in the box office because it is not that bad of a movie. I mean just look at the movie poster! It makes it look kind of horrible.

Overall I give it 3 out of 5 CGI bunnies.
