While the Food Bank for Larimer County's Taste Benefit is usually a fun-filled affair with gourmet food, large gatherings don't exactly lend themselves to a global pandemic.

But even with COVID-19 restrictions, the 2020 Taste Benefit will not disappoint.

The event is going virtual this year with an epic "Iron Chef" inspired cooking competition.

Dubbed the Taste 2020 Challenge, six chefs from local restaurants like Austin's, Blue Agave, Daddy Cakes Bakery, and more will face off to see who can create the most innovative dish using ingredients mostly from the Food Bank.

The challenge will take place over three episodes, which will be broadcast at 7 p.m. on September 28-30 on the Food Bank's Facebook page.

"September is Hunger Action Month, and it's a nation-wide activation for both local food banks and for Feeding America. We thought 'what better way to end Hunger Action Month than to have three nights of The Taste?'" said Paul Donnelly, Communications Director at the Food Bank for Larimer County, in our "Tuned In to NoCo" interview.

On top of entertainment, viewers will also have the chance to win prize packages. Worth up to $500, the packages will have tons of goodies, including gift certificates to local restaurants.

In order to win, simply comment on one of the Food Bank's social media pages during the broadcasts.

"Not having the ability to go to our local restaurants pointed out how much we miss them and how important they are," said Donnelly. "When you're watching the episodes, hopefully it will remind you of how much you enjoy food from different restaurants...and then also we're just hoping that you'll remember the Food Bank and the different work that we're doing in the community."

Aside from putting on events like Taste, the Food Bank is also working year-round to provide nourishment to those facing food insecurity in NoCo.
