Starbucks, one of the biggest coffee and beverage purveyors in the world, has just super-sized their menu offerings.   Well, they didn’t change anything, except they are adding a giant new 31 oz. cup to their menu.

Starbucks has already made me do away with the sizes of small, medium, and large in favor of tall, grande, and venti. But now (because apparently bigger is always better in our country) they have their equivalent to an extra large!  Behold…the 31 oz. Trenta!

The new size will be rolled out across the country over the next few months. The National Post created this helpful diagram that compares the Trenta to the other size offerings at Starbucks and the capacity of the human stomach.

Yes, you can now overfill your stomach with Starbucks beverages and the Trenta might not be your waistline’s best friend.  The Trenta is nearly double the size of a tall, therefore, nearly double the number of calories. And just to scare you a little, if you get a Trenta White Chocolate Mocha with whipped cream you’re looking at a ballpark of 7 to 9 hundred calories in one cup.  Wow.  But if you subscribe to the theory that calories are nothing more than “flavor points” you might just be in heaven.

Starbucks does offer teas and other beverages that are diet friendly, even some of their coffee.  Here are some low-calorie offerings according to Woman’s Health

A Starbucks Caffe Americano (16 fl oz) only has 16 calories.

The Starbucks Cappuccino with low-fat milk only has 135 calories (16 fl oz size).

Starbucks Cappuccino with regular milk contains 175 calories (16 fl oz size).

I wonder if the Trenta is going to fit in an average cup holder?
