From hole-in-the-wall gastropubs to fancy steakhouses, and everything in between, there's no shortage of delicious and unique restaurants throughout the Centennial State.

One of Colorado's most extraordinary eateries can be found underground – journey down the rabbit hole to see what lies beneath.

Many people walking along the main drag in Colorado Springs would never know that set of inconspicuous subway stairs leads down to a sleek, secret space.

What used to be the city's morgue has since been transformed into an enchanting evening escape known as The Rabbit Hole.

The swanky restaurant and cocktail bar features an Alice in Wonderland theme, with a gothic twist. Quirky artwork with recognizable characters, including Tweedle Dee, the white rabbit, and Alice herself, add to the unique vibe. Elegant fixtures with dim lighting create an intimate atmosphere, ideal for a romantic night out or a boujee evening on the town.

The establishment's unconventional concept came to the Springs in 2011 and is the brainchild of legendary Colorado restaurateur, Joe Campana.

Foodies are guaranteed to savor the flavors found on the diverse dinner menu. From tasty shareable plates to seafood, ribs, and steak, the Rabbit Hole offers upscale and eclectic cuisine that's sure to satisfy even the pickiest eater. With names like The Queen's Garden, Mad Hatter, and Cheshire Sour, the creative cocktails are right on brand with the rest of the restaurant.

The Rabbit Hole's past life as a morgue is gone but not forgotten. Stories of spirits and unexplainable occurrences haunting the underground destintation have been swirling for year.

Reservations are highly recommended at the Rabbit Hole. The restaurant is open and serves a full menu from 4 p.m. to 10:30  p.m. daily. Although the Rabbit Hole's official address is 101 North Tejon Street, patrons can find the hidden entrance on Kiowa.
