Now that Upfronts 2015 have entered the scheduling phase, we thought most of the major renewals, cancellations and pickups had delivered their biggest surprises. Not so apparently, as FOX has decided to put American Idol out to pasture after 15 seasons, ending the reality singing competition for good next year.

Upfront season has already given us a few pickups, but so too must cancellations follow. FOX’s The Mindy Project has become the first high-profile casualty of the season, canceled after three full seasons, but with a twist: Hulu may already have stepped in to revive the acclaimed comedy.

Well, that didn’t take long! Just days after rumors broke that FOX was ready to greenlight an official X-Files revival with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, the truth is officially out there. Mulder and Scully will return for a limited X-Files run on FOX, but what other details can we uncover?

Heading into its record-setting 26th season, 'The Simpsons' show no signs of stopping as 2014 brings with it a bevy of new milestones. The Dark Knight rises once more. Surprising absolutely no one (the original option had proven more or less straight to series to begin with), FOX has officially elected to bring the caped crusader to life once more with a series order for Batman prequel 'Gotham.'

We've seen 'The Simpsons' pay tribute to late voice actress Marcia Wallace on multiple occasions, but its latest is the most heartfelt and lovingly crafted yet. While some renewals are more surprising than others, FOX has officially granted a second season to Andy Samberg's Golden Globe-winning 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine,' along with thirds for Kevin Bacon serial killer drama 'The Following' and Mindy Kaling's critically-adored 'The Mindy Project,' and a fourth season for Zooey Deschanel's ever-quirky 'New Girl.'
