2013 Colorado Flood

In September 2013, Northern Colorado experienced a 100-year flood on the Big Thompson and St. Vrain rivers, killing four people and shutting down I-25. Thanks to the tireless efforts of our local community, much of the damage has been cleaned up, but the region is forever changed.

With the recent flooding there is a lot of rebuilding and a lot of road construction to be done. There are a limited number of roads to get into Estes Park, Colorado to begin with, but as of right now, there is only one way. That one way is a road which usually closes for the season in October and is currently only open to emergency personnel. (It closed on October 17th last year.)

Call me insensitive, but I do remember when the floods started getting bad on Friday afternoon, asking a few friends if we should get out the tubes we use during the summer to go down the river, and using them to tube down the flooded streets. Seems like I wasn't the only one with mischievous ideas... The difference is these people actually did crazy stuff...
