We could soon be eating indoors again in Fort Collins.

This weekend, Summit County was approved for the 5 Star Certification Program in Colorado, a program that allows businesses to reopen at limited capacity despite operating in counties that have a level red restriction.

Summit County Commissioner Elisabeth Lawrence, according to 9News, submitted the county's application as early as possible so as to give their businesses a chance at garnering some holiday traffic. Within 72 hours of the application being approved, 134 restaurants were given the green light to reopen, and Larimer County could soon be next.

While on Friday some officials said that Larimer County was not quite ready for as quick of a turnaround as Summit County, Governor Polis was the one to say that we could be back indoors at our favorite local businesses as early as Wednesday, December 23, 9News says.

In order to apply for the 5 Star Certification Program, counties must show a significant decline in COVID-19 cases over the course of two weeks. Luckily, Larimer is already experiencing a decline in numbers compared to a month ago.

Will we make the cutoff by Wednesday? Only time— and a decline in COVID-19 cases— will tell.
