Rihanna Named Harvard University Humanitarian of the Year, Work!
Rih has officially been named the 2017 Harvard University Humanitarian of the Year, according to The Harvard Gazette, for several recent contributions to the people of Barbados and surrounding Caribbean countries. She commissioned the building of an oncology center to diagnose and treat breast cancer at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and also moved to provide education for many who need it.
"She has also created the Clara and Lionel Foundation Scholarship Program for students attending college in the U.S. from Caribbean countries, and supports the Global Partnership for Education and Global Citizen Project, a multiyear campaign that will provide children with access to education in over 60 developing countries, giving priority to girls and those affected by lack of access to education in the world today," said Harvard Foundation director S. Allen Counter.
James Earl Jones and Malala Yousafzai have both previously been honored with the award. Rih will be honored on February 28 at Harvard's Sanders Theater.
