Raska International Offers Unique Flavors to Fort Collins
If you're an adventurous eater with a passion for international cuisines, Raska International is the restaurant for you. Located just off Laurel Street in Fort Collins, Raska features amazing flavors that originate from Ethiopian culture. Hanna is the restaurant's founder and chef. She believes that "food is our medicine", according to their website, and enjoys making unique concoctions of healing herbs.
Hanna's Raska sauce is a key component to many of her amazing dishes. When she was raising two children and attending Colorado State University as a single parent, she created 7 different sauces using her diverse cultural knowledge to make meal preparation easier. Her famous Raska sauce was created from this process in 2003 and, let me tell you, this sauce is divine.
As a Fort Collins local, Raska is one of my favorite places to eat. The restaurant itself is homey with unique decorations that highlight Ethiopian and other international cultures. Hanna is also very kind and welcoming; when I visited on a snowy day, she offered me free tea while I waited for my food.
Everything that I have tried from Raska is amazing. My personal favorite is the Tedla's Delight which features delicious veggies formed into a patty and "grilled to perfection." The flavors are interesting without being too overwhelming. You really can't go wrong, no matter what you choose. Most dishes also come with Injera, which is a traditional Ethiopian flatbread that compliments the unique flavors of the dishes.
Finally, you must try the dark chocolate cake. Seriously, this dessert is amazing. It's a rich, dense cake with a sweet sauce and fresh fruits sprinkled on top. Next time you're around CSU, try Raska International for something new. I promise you won't be disappointed.
