Poudre School District Returning to In-Person Learning in October
In a breaking update from Superintendent Sandra Smyser for the Poudre School District, a plan for in-person back to school learning was announced for the 2020-21 school year.
Students will be phased back into the Fort Collins Area schools beginning in October. Staff and students will be required to wear face coverings.
Poudre School District announced target dates of:
- Preschool will start October 5
- Grades 3 through 5 will start October 19.
- High School and other grades are also targeting October 19 start day.
They will monitor the situation closely and make a final decision the week of September 28, and will look forward to a phased re-entry.
In a video (shared below), Smyser recognizes concerns about the school year she's heard from both students and parents alike. "Nothing has been the same. School included," she says.
Smyser says that consistency will be important for kids in dealing with the trauma of the pandemic going forward, which is a major reason why the school has decided to return to in-person learning in October. Also, COVID-19 testing results are now producing quicker results in Larimer County than earlier in the summer.
PSD has been working closely with the Larimer County Health Department to make the decisions.
