Pikes Peak To Implement Timed-Entry Reservation System
If you're interested in driving up to the summit of Pikes Peak and/or parking up at the top of the popular 14'er this summer, you'll now have to make a reservation before you go.
According to the City of Colorado Springs, a new timed-entry reservation system will launch at Pikes Peak on Sunday, May 1.
Earlier this week, city officials shared that, with the completion of the Pikes Peak Summit Visitor Center, driving to the summit is in high demand; the new reservation system has been implemented to serve as a convenience for all guests looking to summit Pikes Peak by car.
"Reserving a time to drive to the top is designed to make your Pikes Peak experience more enjoyable and hassle-free, ensuring there will be space for you to park", the City of Colorado Springs said.
The city said timed-entry reservations will be required from Friday, May 27 through Friday, Sept. 30; as per the city's official website, while driving to the parking lot at the top of Pikes Peak will require a reservation, entrance to the Summit Visitor Center at Pikes Peak will not require one.
The city says more details regarding the new reservation system at Pikes Peak will be announced during a press conference on Wednesday, Apr. 20.
Earlier this year, Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) officials announced that the park would be implementing a pilot temporary timed entry permit reservation system beginning this May.
The reason? Visitor crowding and congestion at the park have led to increased negative impacts on visitor and staff safety, resource protection, visitor experience, and operational capacity, park officials say.
As a result, RMNP has piloted various visitor use management strategies over the last six years.
Eldorado Canyon State Park, Eldorado Canyon State Park, which is located about an hour southwest of Fort Collins in Boulder County also proposed a weekend reservation system earlier this month.
Should the proposal receive approval at the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission's next meeting in May, a pilot program at the park could take effect as soon as this summer.
