Parasite Found in Teens Eye Due to Dirty Contacts

In news that will make you shudder even if you don't wear contacts, a parasite was found in a girls eye that was slowly eating her eye!

It's stories like this that make me happy that I don't wear contacts anymore, even if the problem could have been avoided.

This 18-year-old had been complaining about a throbbing pain in her eye for several weeks and of course went to several doctors like one does. There were multiple tests done that involved scraping the eye and one time they even had to drill into her eye.

They found out the problem was a parasite called acanthamoeba, which lives in water, and had she not gotten help it would have eaten through her cornea. How did the parasite get into her eye? Her dirty contacts of course!
