Oreo, the company behind the classic black and white cookie and it’s magical cream filling set a world record for the most ‘likes’ of  a Facebook post in a 24-hour period. Not be be outshone, rapper Lil Wayne began a campaign to break the same world record 5 hours after Oreo started theirs.

Oreo began a campaign to earn the world record for the “Most ‘Likes’ on a Facebook Post in 24 Hours" Tuesday morning and Wednesday Guinness World Records confirmed that Oreo had, in fact,  secured the record with 114,619 “Likes” on one post. But when Lil Wayne’s 24 hours were up, his post had pulled in nearly 600,000 likes, shattering the Oreo record. Poor Oreo, but they were still honored for their brief record in a Guinness ceremony yesterday morning. It’s kind of a Guinness pity clap.

Oreo still has plenty to be happy about though, according to the story on MediaPost.com:

“Oreo -- which with 16 million-plus fans over 20 countries has the third-largest Facebook community of any brand worldwide (and a page accessible in Spanish and French, as well as English)”

Oreo will be celebrating their 100th anniversary next year.

The Oreo Facebook page had this photo of their world record acceptance from the fine people at Guinness.

Oreo also posted a congratulatory message to Lil Wayne stating,

"Congratulations on beating our record, Lil Wayne! Oreo cookies are on the way for you to have a celebratory moment. If the moment inspires a rap, let us know."

Hmm, I think I want cookies now.
