Have to admit this is pretty cool, or unnerving depending on how you feel about space junk traveling up to 18,000 miles an hour over your head.

In addition to space junk there are more than 2,250 satellites in orbit.  Some of the satellites and meteors can obviously be seen with the naked eye.  Thanks to Patricio Gonzales Vivo, a graphics engineer, just launched a new project called Line of Sight which traces the orbital path of more than a thousand of satellites (clearly the other satellites we don't want to know about).  All you do is plug in your address to see if there are any satellites above you.

Since it is a new project the map is still a work in progress but his hopes are that you will eventually get to watch satellites in real time.  Right now though you will be able to see the satellite's name, height, operational status, and visibility.

As I type this SL-14 R/B is above Fort Collins traveling at 951.59 mph which means by the time you read this it will probably be somewhere over Canada. I really hope that it is just a DirecTV satellite and nothing to do with the government....
