A local family has partnered with Larimer County Natural Resources in order to conserve an 884-acre ranch west of Red Mountain Open Space.

The Steputis family has owned The Little Ponderosa Ranch since 1987. During those 33 years, the family helped manage the nearby forest and also acquired additional, smaller parcels to stitch the ranch together.

Recently, Larimer County and the City of Fort Collins have been working with private landowners to conserve land in the foothills region. In addition to the Steputis family generously donating their ranch, the acquisition was also a component of the Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) 2020 Laramie Foothills Expansion Grant.

The scenic property features rolling grasslands, a ponderosa pine forest, rock outcroppings, and lots of wildlife.

Since the ranch will be protected via conservation easement, the Steputis family takes comfort in knowing that the land will remain preserved and kept in its natural state for both wildlife and humans to enjoy.
