Two days after Will Ferrell resumed his trash-talking of drummers by challenging Metallica's Lars Ulrich to a battle, the latter has accepted to participate in a drum-off.

It all started back in February, when Ferrell and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith got into a mock argument stemming from their physical resemblance to one another. Smith then challenged Ferrell to a drum contest.

Last month, they actually staged the thing on 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,' with proceeds going to charity. Ferrell won, but he had some help.

Earlier this week, Ferrell invited Ulrich to a three-way battle with him and Smith. “Lars gets pissed because he gets mistaken for both me and Chad Smith,” the actor told Spin. “He can settle that score now too. There it is. The gauntlet is down.”

And now Spin reports that Ulrich has accepted the challenge in a statement:

It was a little lonely on the sidelines during the first drum-off, given the somewhat forced nature of the lookalike element between Chad Smith and Will Ferrell, when I'm TRULY the one carrying that dead-ringer gene around! As for any further drum-offs, I'm sure that with a bit of practice, I could give Chad a run for his money. But Will? That's a whole different story. He rules the "bad-ass drummer universe." I mean, you're talking about a guy who's so next level, actually, so beyond next level, that he may just be completely unreachable! That said, I'm definitely up for the challenge…Bring it on!!!

No word on when this latest drum battle will take place, but we're sure it will be milked for endless publicity purposes for the next three months or so until they stage it on some late-night show. At least maybe we can get a Metallica TV performance out of all this.

Here's the original drum-off between Ferrell and Smith last month:
