However, as one can safely assume, the more industrialized parts of the state aren't as fortunate when it comes to air quality and some places, including the state's largest and most populated city, has so much polluted air that emission tests are required on all vehicles in order to be registered with the department of motor vehicles.

While the dirty haze over Denver is often an unsettling sight, Colorado is only ranked as the 12th least polluted state in the country when it comes to air quality.

This is actually a pretty impressive figure, as Colorado's neighbor to the north, Wyoming, is ranked the 10th least polluted state despite having the lowest population in the nation.

In fact, Wyoming is the only state that borders Colorado to have a better score when it comes to pollution, as research shows that out of 50, states like Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Utah, have been ranked at 18, 21, 24, 42, and 48, respectively.

While Kansas and Utah have pretty troubling scores when it comes to air quality and pollution, studies have shown that the second-most polluted state in the nation is Louisiana, while the most polluted is Indiana.
