On February 14, 2026, the principal of Summit School in Grand Junction, Colorado, was involved in an altercation that culminated in his arrest, resulting in the man being charged with multiple offenses, including arson, assault, domestic violence, and child abuse.

What Happened to the Grand Junction Principal?

The story originally broke this past Monday, February 16, 2026, and the man has since been identified as 46-year-old Sean Mulvey, the principal at Mesa County Valley School District 51’s Summit School.

On Saturday, February 14, police were dispatched to the 400 block of Donogal Drive after someone called the police alleging that a man was setting fires inside the home. That man was identified as Mulvey.

According to police records, Mulvey and an unidentified woman were having a verbal argument that then turned physical, at which point Mulvey set fire to a pile of clothes inside the home.

Police took Mulvey into custody. As of Tuesday, February 17, it does not appear that Mulvey is still behind bars.

As a result of the altercation, Mulvey has been charged with domestic violence, arson, third-degree assault, and child abuse.

What’s Going to Happen to the Grand Junction Principal?

Upon the breaking of this story, Summit School placed the principal on administrative leave, releasing the following statement:

We are aware that Summit School Principal Sean Mulvey was arrested on February 14. This matter involves an alleged incident that occurred outside of the school setting.

The statement went on to emphasize the school’s priority of ensuring safety and well-being for students and staff.

Mulvey is set to appear in court on Friday, February 20.
