One of the most recent maps illustrating facts about the U.S.A.'s 50 states lists the bestselling musical artists that originated in each state with some definite surprises.
What is Colorado's Bestselling Musical Artist?
When considering which musical acts originated in Colorado, a few educated guesses will typically come up. These tend to include acts like Big Head Todd and the Monsters, The String Cheese Incident, and The Fray, with the latter being named the bestselling in the state.
However, while The Fray being named the bestselling artist that originated in Colorado may not seem too terribly surprising, some of the artists with the same distinction from Colorado's neighboring states are a bit more unexpected.
What Are Colorado's Surrounding States' Bestselling Artists?
Perhaps the biggest surprise is the fact that the bestselling artist from New Mexico is practically synonymous with Colorado - the late John Denver. Not only did John Denver live in Aspen, but he wrote the state's unofficial song "Rocky Mountain High" and even chose the state's capital as his stage name. Despite all this, Denver was named the bestselling artist of Colorado's southern neighbor for the fact that he was born in Roswell.
Another surprise comes in the form of Utah's bestselling artist - Jewel. This comes as a shock for many as Jewel is widely-known to have gotten her start as a busker in Alaska, but she was, in fact, born in Utah.
