Strange Group “Claims” 1,400 Acres of Forest Service in Colorado
There’s been plenty of strange happenings that have gone down in Colorado, some that people would like to forget.
Incidents like the balloon boy happened right here in Colorado. The whole thing took not just Colorado by storm, but the entire country. However, it was definitively found to be a hoax when the boy himself innocently rebutted the plot.
That was a long time ago, 2009 in fact.
Now, there’s bizarre happenings going on in the San Juan National Forest in Colorado. However, this is by no means any hoax.
Polygamist Group Called “Free Land Holders Committee” Claim 1,400 Acres of Forest
As we speak, there is a group called the Free Land Holders Committee that has “claimed” 1,400 acres of U.S. National Forest Service Land.
According to the Denver Post, the group had placed barbed wire around all 1,400 acres and are saying they have rights to the land based on the Homestead Act of 1862.
All this fencing is near the town of Mancos, Colorado, and the situation has residents both worried and frustrated.
Many ranchers use the federal land for their cows to graze, which the barbed wire fencing obviously impedes.
Some residents have taken matters into their own hands, tearing down sections of the fences themselves.
However, local authorities are trying to tell people to stay away for the time being, since this group is unpredictable and has incredibly shady ties to a cult.
The Free Land Holders Committee Has Ties to Cult Leader Warren Jeffs
According to police, the group has members from the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS).
If you are unaware, FLDS is a sect of Mormonism that has been described as a cult.
A major facet of all Fundamental Mormons is the idea of polygamist weddings, which the current day Church of Latter-Day Saints does not recognize.
FLDS’ former leader, Warren Jeffs, is a truly despicable person, who arranged marriages between adult men and underage girls.
Jeffs himself has been convicted as well for multiple instances of sexual conduct with minors along with incest.
Fortunately, he is currently serving a life sentence, and the FLDS church has been seized by the state of Texas.
For this group to be associated with him is rather concerning, and despite the people of Mancos insistence on working this situation out, things could very well become ugly.
